메모리얼데이에 한국전쟁 추모행사에 참여 |Participated In Memorial Day Korean War Commemoration Ceremony

지난 5월 22일 (목), KMAC 한민족비전센터는 영광스러운 기연으로 샌드라 황 시의원님이 주최하는 2026년 메모리얼데이 한국전쟁 참전열사 추모행사 (Korean War Memorial) 에 참여하게 되었습니다. 이번 추모행사에서는 시 정계인사들, 공익협회 관련인사들, 메모리얼데이 에세이대회 수상학생들이 모여 "존경합니다, 사랑합니다"를 웨치며 참전열사들이 평화를 위해 흘린 땀과 피에 대해 마음깊이 우러러나오는 경의심을 보이는 소중한 시간이 되었습니다.

군악단의 장열한 국가연주속에서, 모두의 진중한 추모의식속에서, 정적을 깨는 학생들의 감탄스러운 필력속에서, 추모의 꽃송이들이 만개하는 봄향기속에서 진행된 이번 행사는 여러 민족을 아우르는 우리의 커뮤니티가 선배들의 고혈속에서 지어진 하나의 따뜻한 보금자리임을, 그리고 평화라는 단어가 얼마나 어렵게 획득되고 또 소중한 하나의 단어인지를 모두의 마음에 다시 한번 각인시켜주는 자리였습니다.

한민족이민자들의 권익보호와 공권력신장의 개혁을 목표로 하는 한민족비전센터에게 이번 한국전쟁 참전열사 추모행사는 뜻깊은 하나의 기억의 장으로 다가왔습니다. 여러 민족들이 함께 모여 한국, 한민족의 가슴아픈 과거사에 대해 눈시울을 적시고, 깊게 추모하던 그 모습들은 조용한 아련함으로 다가와 마음 한켠에 시리고도 아픈 그 단어, "글로벌민족의 정"이라는 단어를 새겨두었습니다.

앞으로 한민족비전센터는 한민족이민자들의 권익향상을 도모하는것을 넘어 여러 정계인사들, 공익협회들과 협력하여 우리의 다문화적인 커뮤니티의 공동적인 발전에도 성심성의껏 힘을 보태기로 약속하는 하루가 되었습니다. 우리가 아픈 역사적순간을 통해 동병상련을 느끼고 또 서로 보다듬어줌으로써 진정한 하나로 이어질수 있었던 순간을 선사한 샌드라 황 시의원님과 모든 관계자 여러분에게 진심어린 감사와 경의를 올립니다.

On Thursday, May 22, KMAC Korean Minjok Aspiration Center had the honor of participating in the 2026 Memorial Day Korean War Memorial Ceremony, hosted by Council Member Sandra Ung. The event brought together local elected officials, representatives of nonprofit organizations, and student winners of the Memorial Day Essay Contest to pay tribute to the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for peace and freedom.

Throughout the ceremony, participants joined together in expressing the heartfelt message, "We honor you. We love you." It was a meaningful occasion during which everyone reflected with deep gratitude and reverence on the sacrifices made by Korean War veterans and fallen service members, whose courage, dedication, and selflessness continue to safeguard the peace we enjoy today.

Accompanied by the stirring performance of the national anthem by the military band, the solemn memorial service, the moving essays presented by talented students, and the spring blossoms surrounding the memorial, the ceremony served as a powerful reminder that our diverse community has been built upon the sacrifice and devotion of those who came before us. It also reminded us that peace is neither ordinary nor guaranteed—it is a priceless gift earned through tremendous courage and sacrifice.

For KMAC Korean Minjok Aspiration Center, whose mission is to protect the rights of Korean immigrants and strengthen civic engagement within our communities, participating in this Korean War Memorial Ceremony was an especially meaningful experience. Witnessing people from many different backgrounds come together to remember the painful history of Korea and honor those who gave everything for future generations left us with a profound sense of unity, compassion, and shared humanity. It reaffirmed that the bonds of our global Korean community transcend borders, cultures, and generations.
